What I love most about their space is the way they reduced their IKEA percentage by adding vintage Mid Century Modern pieces throughout.  It still feels modern and anti-kitschy.

 I love how the main wall, sofa, and table are neutral while the artwork and area rug set the color scheme for the living room.

This lamp is just amazing.

Every now and then I come across a DIY project that makes me wanna slap a bitch.
I mean, like...how amazingly amazing is this?

Design Sponge blew my mind with this beauty.  She's embellished with...get this...old shutter slats.
Yeah.  This is why I leave the DIYing to the pros.

Self Interview: Living Room Edition

In an effort to clear the clutter from my mind and cure my design ADD, I've decided to interview myself the way bloggers interview the participants of their house tours.  Only, my interview will be about what I would like my apartment to eventually look like!  Here goes!

How would you describe what you'd like your living room to feel/look like?
Bohemian meets contemporary rustic.  Lots of textures.  Nods to both global bazaars and nature.  World Market meets Urban Outfitters with a splash of thrift.

What color schemes do you enjoy for this space?
For my living room, I am enjoying the idea of a "Moroccan Carnival" color scheme, which would be centered around my chili colored couch and my gun metal colored Apostrophe Chair.

If I didn't have to share half of my garage space with my neighbor, I would SOOOO turn it into a space for social gatherings.

Room Envy: Emma Reddington of The Marion House Book

Yum.

This room reminds me of a beautiful rustic house I once lived in while performing in The Berkshire Mountains.  I love so much about this!  The 12-inch baseboards, the handcrafted bed frame and matching bench...even the way the drapes are hung to accent the way the two windows meet in the corner.  This is the kind of bedroom I want to curl up in with a good book on a Northeastern rainy summer day.

I'm loving the gray walls with the rustic accent of a simple tree branch.  It looks kinda like the antlers I have been wanting to put on my wall.  And the faux fur throw on the chair is just sooooo inviting.

Back when I was couch shopping almost a year ago, I remember considering IKEA's modular seating options like the TYLÖSAND line.  However, I changed my mind when considering that the sofa as a whole might not fit my space, and separating the pieces might look odd.  But after seeing Florence Rolando's floating IKEA sectional piece elegantly featured today on Design*Sponge, I might reconsider this assumption.

What do you guys think?  Would you float a sectional piece as a free-standing seating option?

House Tour Inspiration: Liz's Durham Duplex

While enjoying my daily browse of the Apartment Therapy blog, I came across Liz's inspiring house tour.  It all started when I noticed that she and I have the same paper lantern pendant floor lamp...

I really liked the casual modern motif she combined with the natural and bohemian textures of the paper lamp.  But then, as I kept clicking, I saw a really neat pattern.  She seems to have tied all the rooms together using the paper lantern theme.

I was really inspired by her minimalist bedroom.  I am currently faced with the dilemma of not being able to paint my apartment walls and have been unsatisfied with the institutional feel I get whenever laying in my bed. Liz, however, used her white walls to her advantage by working WITH them and hanging several white lanterns.  I think it provides quite a relaxing atmosphere.  What do you think?

I love a good canopy bed.  Something about them reminds me of my blanket fort building days when I would drape various colorful quilts and coverlets over anything that would hold the fabric up like a tent.

I saw Daren Aronofsky's masterpiece, Black Swan, this past week.  After recovering from the post-traumatic stress, I found myself inspired by the costumes in his ballet-within-a-movie rendition of Swan Lake.

Cornered & Floored: Bed Inspiration

I recently upgraded from a full-sized bed to a luxurious queen.  Sadly, though, her highness is currently nestled in the corner, sitting on top of the boxspring.  I don't know how soon I can afford to spring for a new bed frame, so I've been researching alternative ways to spruce up m'lady in her current state.

With a bed on the floor, it's probably a good idea to keep most other furnishings and decor relatively low, as to maintain a nice perspective.  Otherwise, I would imagine laying on the bed would feel a bit like Alice after discovering the "Drink Me" bottle.

Emily Henson's house tour on Apartment Therapy proved to be good inspiration.  Here, she accents a cornered bed with a pretty rad tree design, and disguises a boxspring with a fitted sheet.  In the Master, another cornered bed is softened by scattered frames as a unique headboard.

And speaking of headboards, this corner headboard rocks my world.  Seems simple enough to make for a DIY project too!
