Trim The Tree!

I'm getting so excited to decorate my Christmas tree this year.  Growing up in CT, my family and I would always attend The Festival of Trees at the Wadsworth Atheneum.  There were always so many tree styles: traditional, country, alternative, ornate.  I always wanted to have a themed tree like the ones at the festival.  Remodelingmyspace has some great examples of themed trees.  Take a look at these holiday works of art.

For some crazier alternatives, check out these fun trees after the jump!

Friday Sneak Peak

Here's a taste of what I'm working on for next week!

Growing up, my family wouldn't purchase and decorate a Christmas tree until at least the second week of December.  This year, however, I'm considering buying a tree within the week so that I might enjoy it before I leave town for the holidays.  Now, I'm a REAL tree kind of girl...but I've seen a few ideas that I might just have to play with.  Case in point, this quirky post-it tree from Bright Bazaar!

What A Lovely Accent!

I've been wanting to paint my walls and have been going back and forth as to whether or not I want to paint all four, or just do an accent wall.  An accent wall would definitely be more budget friendly, and for a first-time apartment painter I should probably keep the difficulty level down towards beginner-intermediate.  Here's what I'm working with.  The model is my best friend Harold, visiting from NYC...hi, Boo!

 Living Room

Taken from the couch in the living room, facing the entryway.

So I've been researching single accent walls, specifically in rooms where all the other walls are white.  Here's what I've found for inspiration:

 Nicole Sassaman's foyer on Decorpad

Mansi's Orange Accent on Apartment Therapy

I like the idea of a patterned accent wall.  Whereas, I don't really want to go the wallpaper route, this patterned accent wall on Decor8 has me inspired.

Now this is more my speed...and much easier.  An accent color with a wall decal print like these ones on T&R might give the affect I need to tie together the painted wall with the white ones.

Take a look at a few more wall decals I enjoy after the jump!

Happy Black Friday!

Today marks the first day of the Christmas shopping season!  I just came home from my 3am Black Friday excursion, which has now got me in the spending mood.  Sadly, I can't spend how I'd like to...so it's really just a window shopping mood.  In honor of the ooohs and ahhhs, I present to you this fashion inspiration from Elle France.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The enlightened give thanks for what most people take for granted.  As you begin to be grateful for what most people take for granted, that vibration of gratitude makes you more receptive to good in your life.

Delicious Discoveries: Carnival Art Prints

These fine art photographs by Irene Suchocki make me want to kiss someone while on the top of a ferris wheel.

Last Minute Host / Hostess Gifts

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!  If you are hosting your family diner...more power to ya!  But if you're like me and prefer to leave the cooking to the ones who do it best, you might want to show your THANKS and gratitude to the host or hostess.  If this idea comes as news to you, don't you fear.  Here are a few last minute items that would work as perfectly suitable options.

#1) Try a simple painted glass item:

Before

After

Using leftover paint from a recent painting project, you can turn any glass container (drinking glasses, vases, decanters, bottles & jars) into a lovely display.  Just wash it out and swirl some paint in there until the inside surface is completely coated.

Add a single flower and voila!  Just hand off to your lovely host.  But don't forget...you can't put water in there.  So if you want the flower to last, add an old florists' water tube or a damp paper towel to maintain the life of the flower through Thanksgiving dinner.  Check out the video tutorial for this project at Canadian House and Home.

How Cool! - Wire Hanger Organizer

So, I recently shared with you my DIY jewelry organizer, along with several of the images that inspired me in the first place.  Well, I just had to add one more to the list.

One of my favorite design blogs, Decor8, featured this simple wire clothes hanger turned jewelry organizer.  So brilliantly obvious.  Why didn't I think of that?!

Cornered & Floored: Bed Inspiration

I recently upgraded from a full-sized bed to a luxurious queen.  Sadly, though, her highness is currently nestled in the corner, sitting on top of the boxspring.  I don't know how soon I can afford to spring for a new bed frame, so I've been researching alternative ways to spruce up m'lady in her current state.

With a bed on the floor, it's probably a good idea to keep most other furnishings and decor relatively low, as to maintain a nice perspective.  Otherwise, I would imagine laying on the bed would feel a bit like Alice after discovering the "Drink Me" bottle.

Emily Henson's house tour on Apartment Therapy proved to be good inspiration.  Here, she accents a cornered bed with a pretty rad tree design, and disguises a boxspring with a fitted sheet.  In the Master, another cornered bed is softened by scattered frames as a unique headboard.

And speaking of headboards, this corner headboard rocks my world.  Seems simple enough to make for a DIY project too!

My latest delicious Etsy discovery are these stunning lockets by Verabel.

Aren't these amazing?!  The authentic vintage lockets features original illustration by artist/designer, Alyson Fox. Some of the designs are taken from textile pattern and vintage portraits as well.  Naturally, my personal favorites are her series of bird and owl lockets.  Check them out after the jump!

I just LOVE these bad parking cards I found on Etsy by WryAndGinger.  They certainly would get a lot of use here in Los Angeles!  Would you use one of these?

¡Bienvenue!

Hello!  Welcome to my little space on the internet.  I finally took the plunge and decided to try my hand at blogging, as I have increasingly become more and more obsessed with various design blogs and the images/ tips / inspiration / products they have to offer.  Though, this may be a slow start, I hope you will bear with me as I begin to build what I hope will be a daily indulgence for us both!

In honor of my first DIY project in my new home.  Behold, my jewelery organizer:

Yes, I know the picture is not of the best quality...I'll be working on that.  But for your viewing pleasure, take a peek at some of my inspirations after the jump.
